If you had told me a year ago that one of my favorite restaurants to go to would be Chili’s, I would have laughed. I always had the impression that Chili’s food would be too spicy for my taste. I’m so glad to say that I was wrong. With good food (including less spicy options) at great prices, in a fun environment, it’s easy to see why Chili’s is now a date-night favorite for us.
The reason I find myself recalling a timewhen I thought Chili’s wasn’t for me, is because of their new promotion – the Wild & Mild Menu. The new menu items include a variety of dishes with ramped up spices or cooled down flavors. I saw this promotion as the perfect opportunity for Tired Dad Dave and I to go on another date night & try the new menu items.
Thanks to the West Park Early Childhood PTA for holding a recent Parent’s Night Out, we were able to drop Kora & Logan off to have fun with their PTA friends, while we headed out to Chili’s for dinner.
Since it was a Friday night around 7 pm we expected Chili’s to be pretty crowded and that we’d have to wait to be seated. We were pleased to see that while the restaurant was packed, the bar seating was pretty empty. The hostess offered us the choice to sit wherever we wanted in the bar.
We knew right off the bat, that we were going to order Chili’s Tostada Chips. If you haven’t had these before, they are incredible! It’s not a trip to Chili’s for us without a basket of the Tostada Chips. They are so tasty, light, and airy that it makes it very easy to eat an entire basket and still have room for dinner.
We were happy to see on the Mild menu the Skillet Queso. It’s a skillet cheese dip mixed with seasoned beef and served with salsa and those must-have Tostada Chips. When it arrived we couldn’t wait to dig in.
The dip reminded me of a chili-cheese combination. I liked that it was served in a skillet rather than dumped over the chips so you could enjoy as much or as little as you liked. On top that, the skillet was cute too! And the chips were delicious – as light and airy as ever.
We were a little sad when we finished the dip and had nearly eaten all of the chips.
All Gone. 🙁
Then our waitress asked if we’d like a refill of chips – we hadn’t realized they would be bottomless too. We excitedly said yes!
Bottomless refills to the rescue!
It wasn’t long after the refill that our next Wild or Mild menu item arrived. We chose to try the Jalapeno Chicken Quesadillas. One of my favorite dishes at Chili’s is the Quesadilla Explosion Salad and my favorite part of the salad is the Quesadillas! Even though the Jalapeno Chicken Quesadillas were listed on the Wild Menu, I was eager to give them a try and was pleased I did.
The jalapenos in the quesadillas were diced very small and gave off just enough kick to be tasty, but weren’t overpowering – and this is from someone who almost never eats jalapenos. Tired Dad Dave enjoyed the spicier dish and we both would order this dish again on a future visit.
I do have to mention that our waitress was wonderful as well. She was prompt, speedy, and efficient. She also made great recommendations and had a hysterical sense of humor that had us laughing all night.
There are a lot of other great dishes on the Wild & Mild Menu, that we’d love to give a try including: Blazin’ Big Mouth Bites, Crispy Honey Chiptole Chicken Crispers, Bacon Ranch Chicken Quesadillas, and more. Tired Dad Dave and I recommend both Chili’s and their new Wild & Mild Menu for your next date night. With great food, a laid back atmosphere, and new menu items, Chili’s makes for a fun night out.
Before we get to the giveaway I have to mention a fun contest that Chili’s is now running called “Shout Out to Eat Out: Wild or Mild.” This is great contest for any Chili’s fan because every day 1 winner will be randomly drawn and will receive a$20 Chili’s gift card. To enter, visit the Shout Out to Eat Out: Wild or Mild contest site and upload a head shot of yourself. Next, create a wild or mild avatar. At the close of the contest on April 30th, 2001, the most voted ‘Wild’ avatar will win a ‘Wild’ trip to Las Vegas and the most voted ‘Mild’ avatar will win a ‘Mild’ trip to Disney World!
